Simulator for the training of subway drivers

The main objective of this project is to offer the metro operator a cost-effective, safe and secure solution that is more efficient than current training while using virtual reality.

Commercial use:

In this particular project, the main idea was to offer an XR tool allowing not only the visual immersion inside the cabin of the train, but also the tactile effect of touching actual physical elements during the simulation. The fairly old model of train, reproduced here, is very mechanical and gestural, and very few keys of the console are electronic. So we built a scenario based on the importance of the user’s dexterity and timing. We also have the opportunity to integrate updates as and when to offer additional training such as security, structural changes in equipment, etc., giving simulation a long life expectancy, and thus reinforcing its profitability and efficiency.

This app is a revolution in the training of metro drivers, a method that had previously not changed or evolved in 40 years. Our clients are  today welcoming an extremely cost-effective, efficient, reusable and much safer tool than real-world training.

Technologically speaking, in the development of this project, we used tracking and Leap Motion technologies, which allows the user to use his hands in virtual reality without the need for additional joysticks. With Leap Motion, training becomes much more effective, as it gives you the opportunity to acquire real skill in interacting with a real, physical fire extinguisher during a fire.

Vive Tracker embeds real-world objects into a virtual environment without any additionnal wire. It just has to be appended on a real object that needs to be tracked. Using a number of trackers will allow you to add one or more real life objects to VR.
